Myopia, otherwise known as nearsightedness, is much more prevalent now than it was in the past.

Myopia is an eye condition that results in blurred eyesight in the distance. Research has shown that not only is myopia more prevalent, but children are developing myopia at an earlier age.

When light goes into a “normal” eye, it focuses directly onto the inside lining of the eye called the retina. In a myopic eye, it goes into the eye but incorrectly focuses in front of the retina.

There are many reasons for light focusing incorrectly inside an eye such as an eye that grows too long or a cornea that is shaped too steep.

High nearsighted prescriptions are associated with blinding eye diseases. They are also associated with thicker corrective lenses.

Recently, stabilizing and possibly lowering the prescription has become popular. There has been a lot of research dedicated to offering different options that are available.
